!...Ric's 1964 Falcon Futura convertible...!
Here
is my Falcon story:
When
I turned 16, my mom had a Dynasty Green, 1964 Futura convertible, 260 V8, 2
speed Fordomatic, and two-tone turquoise bench seats. I drove it for
about a year before my dad, a sales manager at Velde Ford in Pekin, traded
it in for a new 1969 Ford Torino GT. I'd be lying if I didn't tell you
the flashy Candy Apple Red fastback with white C-stripe didn't catch my eye.
However, after I was married and began to age, I would think about the
Falcon every once in a while and all of the fun we had in it while I was
driving it. For some reason, after my mom passed away, I started
researching the Falcon on the internet. That's how I actually found
the FCA. Having never attempted anything close to full blown
restoration, my wife and I discussed this at length and we decided to go
forward. I must say, she has been very supportive of what I wanted to
do.
Armed
with the serial number of my mom's car, a friend of mine in the Office of
the Illinois Secretary of State told me mom's car was registered in Illinois
until the early 90's. Where it went after that is anyone's guess.
So, I began to look for a similar car on eBay and other classic car
sites. Finally, in December of 2008, I found a car on eBay with
a data plate that matched my mom's car, with the obvious exception of the
serial number. It needed a lot of work, but it was exactly what I had
been trying to find. I executed the Buy It Now option and had it home
in a few weeks. After a lot of work, we are approaching the home
stretch of the restoration, and I hope to have it completed by summer of
2015. I guess a guy never forgets his first love, and mine was a 1964
Ford Falcon convertible.
